SEO is hard. Here's some tips we've learned

Building SEO tools like our SEO extension and working to improve our own free SEO audit tool has taught us a lot about how to SEO.

From do’s and don’t to tools and resources, there’s a lot to learn that can make your website shine. We’ll cover some basics in this article as well as our experience so far.

1. Things change all the time, stay up to date

From Google AI summaries, to getting penalized for using AI generated articles, SEO trends are constantly changing.

This means keeping up with news on what’s happening in the SEO space is key to beating your competitors, you can usually grab the good old Google SEO start guide but this can be hard to read. A better way to do it is to Google it, look up “new Google SEO trends 2024” or “latest SEO trends”, then look for one of the big names like www.semrush.com or www.neilpatel.com.

Give those articles a read, practice this every couple of months (things change THAT OFTEN).

2. SEO takes time and practice

We started our own SEO journey at the end of last year, from creating a new domain, registering it, connecting our AI analysis software, to adding our first article, it took time to finally get to a place where we could focus on our own SEO.

Thankfully we have had years of experience working on SEO via software products and other ventures, even with this experience we had to come to terms that it would take a while before we’d see organic traffic or even our website being listed on Google (we have an article for how to take the first step).

The most important thing is to get started, read into how to write SEO articles, how backlinks work, what services you could hire to help, all of this will start your SEO journey (more like an odyssey)!

3. Money can help but it gets expensive

You know those “Sponsored” ads you see when you search something on Google? They’re called Search ads. These ads can get you traffic on your site, at a cost that can get expensive, for example you can bid to be featured when someone looks up “how to start SEO” but this keyword can cost you $2 to $4 per click.

Google Search Ad

A hefty price tag but a useful one depending on your product as people usually click the first result they get. Bettering your chances of beating the competition.

4. Consider SEO tools or even delegating SEO work

SEO is hard, starting off with an audit of where you stand is a great idea.

We recommend reading through Semrush’s SEO Audit guide which will cover several areas and show you how to use their free tool. From our favorite free Organic Traffic dashboard which will show you what organic visits are hitting your website to simple things like checking your website for broken links.

There is also our our free SEO audit extension which will audit your website in seconds and is handy to use.

You could also hire an SEO firm to figure out what are the issues with your website and where improvements can be made. We recommend this approach to start as the costs can be worthwhile if you have no experience or time.

Number one tip, don’t give up.

Remember, stay up to date on all things SEO, have patience in the SEO journey, consider investing in Sponsored ads if your business benefits from it. These have helped us get plixu.com on its SEO path to victory. We hope they do the same for you.

Lastly we recommend spending part of your budget on a website audit as your first step, if this isn’t possible consider using our free SEO audit extension or trying out our free website AI SEO Analysis.
